Trail guide
The Field Traverse is a 0.5-mile out-and-back from the Museum-side start to the hilltop Lake George viewpoint and back. It zigzags over an open grass field. The Farm lists the Museum-to-hilltop segment at 0.25 mile; that fits the mapped line, so this record counts the return along the same path. The separate walk from the main lot to the Museum is not included. Allow about 30 minutes for the moderate climb and a view stop.
At the top, the view opens toward the mouth of Lake George's Narrows, with mountains along the eastern shore beyond it. That broad lake-and-ridge scene is the payoff. Leave a little grass in the foreground if you want the hillside to frame the water.
The trail starts near the Museum. From the visitor lot off Route 9, check in at the Farmhouse and walk across the property to the start. A day-use fee applies even to trail-only visits, and public access follows the Farm's posted grounds schedule, so check it before setting out. The short grass-covered climb is rated Moderate. Pets other than service animals are prohibited.
