“Near Drymen, Buchanan Castle looks much older than it is. The Duke of Montrose had it built in the eighteen fifties, and during the Second World War it became a military hospital.”

More about Drymen Camping

A field stop for walkers and cyclistsDrymen Camping is a small, seasonal campsite on Gartness Road, directly on the West Highland…

Drymen Camping is a small, seasonal campsite on Gartness Road, directly on the West Highland Way and National Cycle Route 7. Tent pitches and glamping pods sit in a grassy, tree-dotted field with views over the surrounding countryside. It's about 2 km from Drymen village, so it suits an overnight walking or cycling stop better than a town-centre stay.

What makes the overnight easierGuests have hot showers, toilets, drinking water, charging points and a sheltered communal area…

Guests have hot showers, toilets, drinking water, charging points and a sheltered communal area for preparing and eating food. Bring your own cooking equipment. Wi-Fi is available, with coverage guaranteed in the communal shelter rather than at every pitch.

The small reception shop sells snacks, simple camping meals, supplies and hot drinks, including freshly ground coffee. Drymen's pubs, cafés, deli and shop are separate options in the village; factor in the walk if you're heading out for dinner.

Check your pitch before bookingSmall campervans can use suitable pitches, but motorhomes and caravans aren't accepted.

Small campervans can use suitable pitches, but motorhomes and caravans aren't accepted. Parking is limited, and the accommodation options differ in what vehicle space they include. Dogs are allowed on tent pitches under lead and control rules, but generally not in pods.

The site prohibits campfires, drinking alcohol and loud music, so choose it for a quiet night. Check the season before travelling and navigate to the named campsite: using the postcode alone can send you to a neighbouring farm.
