Trail guide
The Ben Lomond Memorial Trail is a roughly quarter-mile loop from Rowardennan car park to the lochshore memorial and viewpoint, returning on the circuit’s other side. Allow about 15 minutes. It is a useful stop for the memorial and lake view when you want an easy walk; this is separate from the steep Ben Lomond summit route, which starts nearby.
The path is firm, smooth gravel throughout, mostly level with a few short moderate ramps. At the shore stands a three-metre circular stone-and-granite sculpture by Scottish artist Doug Cocker, commemorating Scots who died in the two World Wars. The ring looks across the loch to Ben Vorlich. For a photo, frame the hill through the sculpture’s opening, which makes a natural viewfinder.
Begin at Ben Lomond Car Park, at the end of the road; parking is charged. The site has toilets, accessible facilities and a picnic area. Public toilets are open seasonally, from Easter to October. There is no bus to Rowardennan, but a summer ferry serves from Tarbet and Luss. The nearby hotel and hostel offer food and drink as a separate stop. Dogs may accompany walkers under Scotland’s access code; keep them under proper control.
