The Giant's Putting Stone“Near Callander, a huge boulder sits by itself on Bochastle Hill. It's called Samson's Putting Stone, and the local story has a giant hurling it from Ben Ledi.”

Trail guide
Loch Venachar Forestry Walk is a 4.5-mile loop from Invertrossachs car park, climbing through south-shore forest to a hidden lochan before returning beside the loch. Allow about two hours for roughly 210 m (690 ft) of ascent on forestry tracks and tarmac. It is a moderate outing for the tucked-away lochan and views toward Ben Ledi, not a high-level mountain path.
From the signed car park, the route climbs gradually on forest track, passing pylons and a clear-felled slope where Ben Ledi appears in clear weather. A signed fork leads to a small lochan; continue along its north side toward a rocky pass and quarry, then follow the long, winding descent. Whooper Swans may visit the lochan, but sightings are not assured.
The route meets National Cycle Route 7 for about 2.5 km on a private tarmac road beside the loch, passing Invertrossachs Scout Centre and the sailing club. The Lochside Cafe is across the water, not on this loop, and no public transport serves the start. Dogs may accompany under Scotland’s access rights when kept under close control. For a lochside photograph, frame the water between the wooded shores, with Ben Ledi beyond when visibility allows.
