Hiking Bochastle and the Falls of Leny

A forest and river loopThis 4.75-mile (7.

This 4.75-mile (7.5-kilometre) loop from Bochastle Car Park climbs through the forest above the Garbh Uisge, then returns beside the river. Allow two hours and 220 m (720 ft) of ascent. The Falls of Leny approach is a rough optional detour; the mapped forest-and-river circuit is about 4.25 miles without it. This route does not climb Ben Ledi.

Through the forestFrom the picnic area, follow the angled path signed for Ben Ledi onto the forestry track.

From the picnic area, follow the angled path signed for Ben Ledi onto the forestry track. Views open across the glen as dark spruce gives way to larch; the route passes a small quarry before reaching higher ground with views toward Loch Lubnaig. At the blue-posted Ben Ledi path, turn right and descend through the trees rather than climbing toward the summit. The wide descent is steep in places and reaches the road at a river bridge, then the Ben Ledi parking area and riverside cycleway.

Falls and accessFollow the cycleway beside the river through oak woodland.

Follow the cycleway beside the river through oak woodland. By a widened area with a table-like bench, a faint rough path branches toward the Falls, where water splits around a large central rock; a walkway lies opposite. This approach can be slippery and overgrown in summer; take care at the water and skip it if footing is poor. The signed car park is on the A821 near Kilmahog, with free daytime parking and a picnic area. Dogs are allowed under Scotland’s access rules; keep them close around livestock and short-leashed or at heel in forests from April to July.
