Dennison Ferry Day Use Area

Dennison Ferry Day Use Area is a small picnic ground and canoe launch on the Green River, reached by a 1.6-mile gravel road. Choose it for a quiet river break or as the start of a longer paddle. The ferry here is historic; it no longer operates.

The site has parking, picnic tables, benches, fire rings and toilets. It is day-use only, with no camping, and there are no trash cans, so pack out your rubbish. At the river, concrete steps and a wooden boat slide provide the launch.

Paddlers commonly travel 7.6 miles from here to Green River Ferry, a trip the park estimates at 2.5 to 4 hours. Gravel bars, islands and back channels break up the flat-water route. The river shifts over time, and swift current and submerged hazards can occur, so check current river guidance before launching.

Before Mammoth Cave National Park was established, a vehicle ferry here connected local families with larger towns and one another. The site later served as a campground; today it is day-use only. Green River Ferry, the end of the downstream paddle, is a separate destination.
