Set in the subalpine meadows of Barn Flat just off Paradise Valley Road, the Paradise Picnic Area is the park’s big, convenient day-use picnic hub. You’re here for easy logistics—lots of tables, on-site restrooms with drinking water—and for the scene: Mount Rainier towering above summer wildflowers with the Tatoosh Range in the backdrop.

What You’ll See

Expect classic Paradise views with a front-row seat to meadows and peaks. In mid–late summer, wildflowers are the co-stars. Short strolls link you to the Jackson Visitor Center, Paradise Inn, and the major trailheads, so it’s an ideal basecamp for a mellow lunch before or after a hike.

This is one of the park’s largest picnic sites, with more than 100 dispersed tables (most with nearby grills), restrooms, potable water, trash receptacles, and dedicated parking. A short connector with stairs links the lower Paradise parking to the picnic loops. It’s practical, spacious, and close to everything in the Paradise core.

You’ll likely share the space with gray jays, squirrels, and chipmunks; deer and marmots are possible. They can be bold around food—don’t feed them and keep snacks secured. Bears are around the park but are seldom seen here given the steady bustle.
