Boulton Creek Campground

Boulton Creek Campground is a developed campground in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, with more than 160 tree-lined sites for tents and RVs. It works well as a base for the Kananaskis Lakes area: hiking trails, paved bike paths, and the lakes are close enough to enjoy without moving camp each day. From Highway 1, it is about 50 km south via Highway 40 and Kananaskis Lakes Trail.

The five loops include unserviced sites, power-and-water sites, full power, water and sewer hookups, and walk-in tent sites. Pick the setup that matches your trip; the walk-in sites are for tents, while the serviced options suit RVs. Some loops have shorter seasons than others, so check the current campground information before you book.

All campers check in at the Boulton Creek Trading Post before heading to their site. It also carries camping supplies and firewood, and has token-operated showers. The shop is a handy supply stop and an ice-cream treat has become part of the campground experience, but food-service details are limited, so plan meals separately.

The trees give the campground a sheltered feel, and many campers find the sites roomy. Privacy and quiet vary with the site and nearby neighbors, though, so expect a developed campground rather than a secluded backcountry camp. It is best for a comfortable park base with useful facilities, not for guaranteed solitude.
