Guide
Kozjak Caffe & Pastry is a 140-seat café between Hotel Jezero and Hotel Plitvice, close to the lakes. It’s a proper sit-down pause for coffee and dessert in the middle of a day on the paths.
The individual desserts include cheesecake with basa cheese, Tiramisu, Green Pine and Crunch Pistachio. Coffee, matcha, fresh-squeezed juices, wine and light cocktails are also on the menu. The basa-cheese cheesecake is the one to look for.
Architect Zdenko Strižić’s Kozjak restaurant was completed in 1949, designed low to the terrain with its main façade and terrace facing Kozjak Lake. Its original materials included local rock and wood. After falling out of use and collapsing following years of neglect, it was reconstructed from Strižić’s plan; the exterior keeps its historic character while the inside serves today’s café.
People use the café as a coffee-and-cake break after exploring the lakes, or as a place to pause when it rains. Service can be slow, and some visitors find prices high, so don’t count on a quick, cheap stop. It operates mostly seasonally despite being designed for year-round use; check that it’s open before planning around it.
