Guide
Hotel Plitvice is the park’s own hotel on Velika Poljana, about 200 m from Entrance 2 and the bus station. Its position puts the visitor zone close at hand, and the building itself is protected cultural heritage as well as park lodging.
Architect Marijan Haberle and associates designed the multi-storey hotel with a T-shaped plan for accommodation and excursion hospitality. The layout follows the contours and forest setting of Velika Poljana. The park recognizes it as a leading example of Croatia’s postwar public architecture.
Visitors had lodging and meals on this plateau as early as 1862, when a wooden Tourism House could take 12 to 15 travellers. The first Hotel Plitvice followed in 1894–1896, with 40 rooms for up to 80 guests, but burned in 1939. The present building is the second hotel here to carry the name.
