Milka Trnina Waterfalls are a set of low falls crossing the barrier between Milanovac and Gavanovac in the Lower Lakes canyon. Water leaves Milanovac and spreads through several channels into Gavanovac; the mapped fall is about six metres high. Look for a layered run of water and mossy ledges, not a single high drop.

These cascades are part of the lake circuit, not a separate outing. Park routes from either entrance cross the Lower Lakes canyon; follow the route toward Gavanovac and Milanovac and leave time to pause at the smaller falls. A valid park ticket is required for the official routes, and some itineraries combine walking with a boat or panoramic vehicle.

Milka Trnina, also known in English as Milka Ternina, was a Croatian opera singer born in 1863. In 1898 she dedicated a performance of Wagner’s Tannhäuser to Plitvice; proceeds helped the Plitvice Association build viewpoints and bridges over the lakes. The park says these falls were named for her while she was alive, the only waterfalls in the park with that distinction.

The channels run over a tufa barrier between two lakes, giving this stop a broad, stepped profile rather than the park’s famous tall plunge. Pale ledges, green growth and blue-green water make the falls easiest to read from a close view along the route.

Frame several channels with the mossy ledges and trees, leaving some of the blue-green pool below. A wider look across the barrier shows how the cascades connect the two lakes.
