Rob Roy Glacier Track

From Raspberry Flat car park, follow the West Matukituki Track to the swing bridge over the West Matukituki River, then continue through the gorge and beech forest into alpine vegetation. The named route ends at the Rob Roy Glacier upper lookout. Do not continue beyond the lookout: DOC warns of steep drop-offs, canyons, unstable ground and fast-flowing water.

The car park is 54 km west of Wānaka via the Wānaka–Mount Aspiring Road; the last 30 km are gravel and the final 10 km include several fords that can become impassable after heavy rain. Check road, weather and avalanche conditions before setting out, drive slowly through fords, and consider parking before the final two if they are unsafe. Active avalanche paths cross the section between the lower and upper lookouts from May to November; DOC strongly recommends ending at the lower lookout during that period unless you have current local advice, training and equipment. Expect steep drop-offs and possible ice in winter/early spring; use sturdy footwear and poles as appropriate. No dogs are permitted.

Toilets are available at the car park; water is not potable. Kea may be seen—do not feed them and secure food and shiny gear. Respect swing-bridge limits, stay on the formed track and leave gates as found where the access crosses private farmland.
