“Endovalley Picnic Area is ahead, a wooded loop with separate pull-in tables, some beside the river. I'd stop here for a packed lunch and a break in the shade, rather than another overlook.”

Endovalley is a wooded picnic loop with a river running through it, right beside the start of Old Fall River Road. The sites are separate pull-ins among the trees, some close to the water, rather than one big central lot. I'd make it a meal stop or a quiet break; the appeal is a place to eat, not a separate overlook.

Before the high-country driveThe picnic loop used to be a campground.

The picnic loop used to be a campground. Old Fall River Road begins beside it; built between 1913 and 1920, it opened as the park's first auto route into the high country. The 9.4-mile road is one-way uphill and unpaved, ending at Fall River Pass at 11,796 feet. It usually opens to vehicles from early July into early October.
