Hiking Chapin Creek Trail

A short, steep creek walkChapin Creek Trail is a 1.

Chapin Creek Trail is a 1.3-mile out-and-back from Chapin Creek Trailhead, following a mapped path about 0.66 mile downhill before returning the same way. It is short, but the return climbs roughly 600 feet at elevations above 10,500 feet; allow about 1 to 1½ hours. Choose it for a brief creek-side walk rather than the separate Chapin, Chiquita and Ypsilon summit climbs. Some trail listings give a longer distance, but no matching route line confirmed the extra segment; this total covers the mapped path out and back.

Where the tread fadesThe signed junction sends you onto the creek branch, away from the summit route.

The signed junction sends you onto the creek branch, away from the summit route. The footpath is rough and overgrown, and becomes indistinct after entering a meadow. The mapped segment ends at the last clear trace; do not assume a faint continuation is a maintained trail. Turn around there and retrace the same path, with the climb back concentrated into the final two-thirds of a mile.
