Trail Ridge Store & Café occupies the larger stone-and-shingle building beside Alpine Visitor Center at Fall River Pass, 11,796 feet above sea level. It combines a seasonal café, coffee bar and gift shop—a practical place to eat, browse and get indoors while crossing the alpine tundra on Trail Ridge Road. The interpretive visitor center next door is a separate building.
The café serves made-to-order sandwiches, salads, soups, snacks, desserts and drinks; the adjacent coffee bar adds espresso and brewed coffee, tea, and baked goods. The shop carries gifts, apparel and regional crafts. Expect a simple stop rather than a full-service meal. It can feel cold even in summer, and storms move quickly at this elevation, so bring a warm layer even if your day started lower down.
The store opened in 1936 as Trail Ridge Museum, when the original shop was smaller than today's building. Its early stonework and fireplace remain incorporated into the expanded concession. Step inside and you can still spot the old stone walls and fireplace.
A viewing area with benches and interpretive signs sits between the store and visitor center, looking into a glacial cirque that gathers heavy snow; snow can last into August. Alpine Ridge Trail and the Ute Trail toward Milner Pass also leave from the shared lot, so there is more to do here than browse.
