Guide
Cameron Lake Cabin is a small Alpine Club of Canada backcountry hut in Waterton Lakes National Park, tucked among trees about 400 m before Cameron Lake. It is a separately booked winter stay, not an open day-use shelter or a summer lodge. Reserve ahead and plan for a self-supported night in the backcountry.
In winter, vehicle access on Akamina Parkway ends at Little Prairie Day Use Area. From there, expect about 2–3 km on skis or snowshoes with roughly 50 m of gain; posted route distances differ. The approach crosses avalanche terrain, so check current conditions and go with suitable training, equipment and an emergency plan.
Built as a park warden’s cabin in 1929, it is Waterton’s oldest surviving backcountry cabin. Current hut information lists space for up to eight, propane heat, lighting and stove, mattresses, snow-melt water and an outhouse. There is no oven or meal service listed: bring food and check current instructions for using the snow-melt water.
