The draw is the shoreline and the mountain view across the water. On a calm morning the lake can mirror its surroundings; arrive early if that reflection is the reason for your stop, since wind can break it up. For a photo, use the driftwood and pebbles along the edge as a foreground anchor instead of framing only open water.

The picnic area sits beside Lower Waterton Lake, one of the three lakes in the Waterton Lakes Chain. White pelicans are often seen on or above the water in summer. During fall migration, coots, goldeneyes and geese gather on the lake; Sandhill Cranes may be seen in nearby wetlands, and Trumpeter Swans on the water. Wildlife is seasonal and never guaranteed, so scan from the shore without approaching it.
