Yellowstone Tribal Heritage Center

There is no single performance to plan around. In 2026, Yellowstone Forever reported 33 presenters from 19 Tribes and more than 320,000 visitor connections. Offerings included beadwork, moccasin making, traditional foods, photography, dance, storytelling and quillwork. Visitors describe getting to talk with artists and presenters, sometimes during demonstrations. If the doors are open, leave time for a conversation; that direct exchange is the point of the stop.

F. Jay Haynes began photographing Yellowstone in 1881 to promote the Northern Pacific Railroad and established an Old Faithful store in 1897. After he retired, his son Jack built a larger photo shop near the Old Faithful Auto Camp in 1927, with photo finishing and retail downstairs and living quarters above. The building was later moved and altered; in 2009 the National Park Service returned its original portion near its earlier site. It now also houses a Yellowstone Forever bookstore.

Yellowstone was home to many Tribal Nations before its establishment as a national park and remains culturally significant to them. The heritage center is a partnership between the National Park Service and Yellowstone Forever, developed with Tribal consultation to make space for Indigenous artists, scholars and presenters to engage directly with visitors.
