Stoneman Meadow

Stoneman Meadow is a meadow and boardwalk walk in Yosemite Valley, between Curry Village and the Merced River, with granite cliffs rising beyond it. It is a worthwhile stop for a low-effort walk and open valley views, especially near sunset. Paved paths and boardwalks are wheelchair accessible. Reach it by the free shuttle to Curry Village, nearby Curry Village parking, or designated roadside parking. Stay on the paths and boardwalk to protect the fragile meadow; frost or snow can make the boards slippery in winter.

Look across to Half Dome, North Dome, Upper Yosemite Fall, and Washington Column. The meadow gives the cliffs and waterfall a natural foreground, and the boardwalk offers an easy way to take in the scene without crossing the vegetation. For photos, let the boardwalk or meadow grass lead toward the granite skyline; evening light is the best time to try it.

Stoneman Meadow provides plant and wildlife habitat and helps regulate water flow. A 250-meter abandoned asphalt path once cut across it and disrupted that flow; it was removed in 2006 so more natural hydrology could return. In mid-to-late summer, Hooker’s evening primrose opens at dusk and draws sphinx moths to its bright yellow flowers. Stop to look closely, but keep to the designated route.
