Guide
The East Entrance Sign is a roadside landmark on UT-9 at Zion’s eastern boundary. It’s a quick photo stop, not a trail or staffed visitor facility. Stop only in a designated highway pullout with space; park rules prohibit stopping in the travel lane or outside designated areas. If the pullouts are full, keep going.
Civilian Conservation Corps workers built Zion’s entrance signs from locally quarried red sandstone pillars and horizontal log supports in the mid-1930s. The East Entrance Sign is individually listed on the National Register; its record credits the CCC and identifies 1935 as a significant year. It’s a small, tangible piece of the park’s New Deal-era visitor history.
The hanging wooden “Zion National Park” sign and arrowhead sit against the sandstone marker. The red road and pale cliffs give the close-up a sense of place. Keep the stop brief and stay clear of moving traffic; the roadside is not a place to linger.
