This is the public boat ramp on Eagle Lake's south shore, just off Route 233 east of the carriage-road parking. Come here to put a boat or kayak in the water; it's a useful access point, not a developed beach or a dedicated overlook. The same stop also leads to Acadia's carriage roads.
Eagle Lake is the largest lake on Mount Desert Island's east side and a drinking-water source for Bar Harbor. The wayside exhibit by the access explains the lake's clear water and its importance to aquatic life. Swimming, paddleboarding and oarboarding are prohibited; every boater needs a life jacket, and children 10 or younger must wear theirs. From the carriage-road access, look across the water toward North Bubble Mountain; autumn color, birds and other wildlife are reasons to linger.
