A quick pullout around milepost 302 on the Parkway, Boulder Field Overlook is exactly what it sounds like: a viewpoint over a mountainside strewn with rockfall. It’s a handy stop near Grandfather Mountain with a surprisingly good angle toward the Linn Cove Viaduct and the big ridges beyond.

The namesake boulder field tumbling down the slope, partly softened by tree growth.

Why Stop Here

It doubles as an access point to the Tanawha Trail (also part of the Mountains‑to‑Sea Trail), so you can turn a quick viewpoint stop into a real walk.

Parking is a small pullout that fills fast in summer and peak fall color. There are no restrooms, water, or picnic tables—bring what you need and pack it out.
