Bryce Canyon Lodge

Bryce Canyon Lodge is the park’s historic lodging campus, a short walk from Bryce Amphitheater’s rim. Its 114 rooms span lodge suites, motel rooms, and cabins. The main reason to stay here is the location: you can walk to the rim and nearby trails for an early start or an evening visit without driving in from outside the park. Book ahead; reservations are strongly recommended. The lodge is typically closed from November through March, though exact season dates vary.

The lodge dining room serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner during its operating season. Other on-campus options include Valhalla Pizzeria and Coffee Shop, with pizza, coffee, and quick bites, plus a food truck serving sandwiches and sweet treats. The General Store and the lodge gift shop add convenient stops while you are on the campus. When park shuttle service is running, its stop is beside the lodge; it can simplify trips to viewpoints where parking is limited. Public flush restrooms and potable-water filling are available at the lodge during summer.

The rooms are spread across the main lodge, cabins, and the Sunrise and Sunset hotel wings. Accessible lodging is available in those two wings; check the specific room features when booking if you need a particular access detail. The historic setting is part of the appeal, but room condition varies: some rooms feel dated, and upkeep is not uniform across the campus.

Architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood designed the lodge, which opened in 1925. Its broad green-shingle roofs, heavy timber, and stonework give the building its rustic character. The wider lodge and cabin campus was built in stages from 1925 to 1929, including 15 deluxe cabins and 67 standard cabins. The lodge and deluxe-cabin area became a historic district and National Historic Landmark in 1987.

The Utah Parks Company, a Union Pacific subsidiary, built the lodge as part of a rail-and-bus tourism network linking Bryce with Zion, the North Rim of Grand Canyon, and Cedar Breaks. After Bryce became a national park in 1928, the company served as the park’s sole concessioner until it donated its in-park assets in 1972. The lodge was built to make that early multi-park journey possible, and it remains a working place to stay as well as a piece of that travel history.
