Booking and access

Book online in advance; entry is through a coded gate and the booking needs your vehicle registration. From the A9, take the B970 toward Glenmore, then carry on up the ski road; it’s about 10 miles from Aviemore and three miles from Glenmore and Loch Morlich. The site generally runs from early May through late October. Gas camping stoves and gas BBQs are allowed, but charcoal BBQs and open fires aren’t.

Cairngorm Motorhome Stopover is a gated overnight parking area for motorhomes and campervans at Coire na Ciste, on the ski road above Aviemore. The view looks out over Glenmore and Loch Morlich toward Ryvoan Pass, and you can take it in from your vehicle rather than setting off on a hike. I’d choose it for that outlook if you’re travelling self-contained: this is a basic surfaced site, not a serviced campsite, and stays are limited to three nights.

There’s space for up to 45 vehicles, a water feed, grey-water and chemical-toilet disposal, and refuse bins. You need an onboard toilet; caravans, tents and roof tents aren’t accepted. There’s no toilet or shower block and no electric hook-up. The water feed’s drinking-water status isn’t stated, so confirm before using it as potable water. Some parking spots may slope; levelling blocks are useful if you have them.

The Cairngorm Mountain resort is a few minutes’ drive away and has a daytime café with takeaway items and toilets. It’s a separate stop, and parking at the resort’s main car park is charged separately. The stopover was developed with the national park authority and neighbouring land managers as a managed alternative to the growing number of campervans staying at Coire na Ciste.
