Tucked into ancient oak woodland just north of Aviemore, Oakwood is a modern, well-run base that balances peace and convenience. You get the quiet of the woods with mountain views on clear days, and you’re still close enough to town for an easy evening stroll to a pub.
Expect generously sized pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, with clean, contemporary toilets and hot showers. There’s reliable on‑site WiFi, a children’s play park, and even a table tennis spot to keep the kids buzzing on rest days. Dogs are welcome, and the site runs a secure entry system. A burger/food van operates on limited days, which is a handy treat after a long hike or ride.
Glamping pods are available and operate year‑round, giving you a cozy option when canvas season winds down.
The oak woods give the place a calm, sheltered feel—very different from open-field sites. Keep an eye out for local birdlife, the odd red squirrel or roe deer, and plenty of rabbits nosing around the edges.
You’re a short, pleasant walk or cycle from Aviemore via the local path network, with easy access to longer routes (including popular cycle corridors) right from the gate. It’s an ideal hub for exploring the wider Spey Valley and Cairngorms.
Oakwood prides itself on being orderly, which means firm policies. Open fires are not allowed; bring a raised BBQ if you want to grill. Under the oaks the ground can be tough—rock pegs make life easier. If you’re after a totally free‑form, anything‑goes campsite, this won’t be your vibe.
Camping and touring typically run March through October, with glamping pods open all year and a special New Year window. Summer and school holidays are very popular—book early.
