The Aviemore Ring Cairn and Stone Circle is a small prehistoric monument in a grassy plot at the north end of Aviemore, among houses near Grampian Road. It is a short look at a Clava-type cairn, not a large or isolated stone-circle site. Stop for its surviving stones and the contrast with the modern village; if you want a dramatic landscape monument, this one is modest and partly buried.

What remainsThe outer kerb is about 42 feet (13 m) across.

The outer kerb is about 42 feet (13 m) across. Heritage descriptions record four stones in the outer ring and five visible in the inner ring; seven outer stones were recorded in 1877. The monument began as a circular rubble bank edged by inner and outer kerbs and ringed with standing stones. Soil was later placed over the center to protect it, hiding the inner kerb. An old interpretation panel estimates an age of about 4,000 years and says cremated human bone may have been placed inside, but the precise date and use remain uncertain.

Make the stop workThe cairn sits behind emergency-service buildings close to Grampian Road.

The cairn sits behind emergency-service buildings close to Grampian Road. The map pin marks the monument, not a confirmed public entrance. Parking reports conflict, and the public approach and step-free access have not been verified, so check signs locally and do not assume a public space at the site. No food, toilet, or drinking water has been verified onsite; treat this as a brief stop while in Aviemore. For a photo, frame the low stones with the rowan tree; a wider angle also shows the houses that make this an unusual village monument.
