Trail guide
The Heron Trail is an easy 1 mile (1.6 km) walk from Station Square to the circular path at Milton Loch. Start on pavement, follow the well-made approach to the purpose-built lochside loop, then retrace the same link to the village. Allow about 30 minutes.
The Milton Loch section is marked as an all-abilities path. A boardwalk leads to a pond-dipping platform, and wheelchair-accessible picnic benches sit by the path. This is a compact, low-effort outing for a pause by the water, not a long forest circuit.
From April 1 through August 15, keep dogs on a short lead in the woods and stay on the paths to avoid disturbing nesting capercaillie.
