LeCount Hollow Beach

Overview

Also called Maguire’s Landing, LeCount Hollow Beach is a wide, unspoiled stretch of Atlantic shoreline in Wellfleet with towering dunes, soft sand, and consistent surf. It’s praised as one of the area’s most beautiful spots and gets blissfully quiet after Labor Day.

What You’ll See

Expect big ocean energy—rolling breakers, a broad sandy beach, and dramatic dune backdrops. On some days you can even hear cobbles clatter as waves recede. The setting stays natural: no snack shacks, piers, or commercial clutter.

Access, Parking & Facilities

Access is via a steep, sandy route down the dunes, which makes the walk back up a bit of a workout. There’s a paved but not‑very‑large parking lot, seasonal lifeguards, and basic bathrooms; otherwise services are minimal. In season, a Town of Wellfleet beach pass is typically required. You can also reach it by bike via Lecount Hollow Road from the Cape Cod Rail Trail; note that the inland trailhead lot and its amenities are separate from the beach lot.

Safety

This is an oceanside beach with powerful waves and potential rip currents—always heed lifeguards and posted flags. White sharks are present along the Outer Cape; stay close to shore, avoid areas with seals or schooling fish, and follow local shark‑safety advisories. Keep off the dunes and bluffs; they’re fragile and actively eroding.

Geology & Changing Coast

Cape Cod’s dunes and bluffs were built from glacial sands and gravels left by the Laurentide Ice Sheet, then reshaped by wind and waves. The coastline is dynamic and retreating in places; park scientists monitor shoreline change, and access routes can shift or feel especially steep as the landscape evolves.

Best Time to Visit

Summer offers lifeguards and open restrooms but limited parking and more people. For space and serenity, shoulder season—especially after Labor Day—delivers the quiet, wild vibe many come here for. Off‑season beach fires may be allowed with a town permit; check local rules before you go.
