Bluff Campground

Bluff Campground is Congaree’s six-site, tent-only hike-in campground where the Bluff and Firefly Trails meet, about a mile from Longleaf Campground and the Harry Hampton Visitor Center. It suits campers who want a quiet night in the upland woods and don’t mind carrying their gear.

Reserve a site ahead of time. There’s no vehicle access, so park at Longleaf or the visitor center and walk in with everything you need. Each site holds up to eight people and three tents. The campground has no toilets or running water, so bring water and pack out your waste. Fires are allowed only in the provided firepits, and you need water to put one out.

The sites sit along the edge of an open grassy clearing in mixed pine and hardwood forest. Each has a picnic table and firepit. Sun reaches the clearing at different times of day, while trees provide shade around the edges. There’s no trash pickup, shop or electrical hookup here.

This camp is on higher ground than Congaree’s lower floodplain, beside an area being restored to longleaf pine grassland and savanna. Birds and butterflies are among the wildlife you may see; campers have also noted birdsong around sunrise.
