Best time to go
The trail first follows about 300 yards of an old Rim Road alignment, then climbs the peak on switchbacks. The grade reaches about 15 percent. Expect a short, sustained uphill at high elevation rather than a gentle stroll.
The summit gets especially crowded around sunset. Most high-elevation front-country trails are commonly snow- and ice-covered and unmarked from December into June, and snow can linger later in some years, so check conditions before setting out.
