Guide
Expect classic lower-bay scenery: a scatter of islets, protected coves, and broad intertidal flats with mountain backdrops. From the water around Lester Island you can look toward the Beardslee Islands and nearby named spots like Eider and the Marble Islands. At higher tides, you’ll weave gentle channels; at lower tides, you’ll find broad, exposed flats and lively intertidal life.
The nearshore waters and kelp beds attract marine mammals and seabirds. Keep an eye out for seals or sea otters bobbing in the kelp, and listen for gulls and other seabirds working the shoreline. Early and late in the day are your best bets for activity.
This corner of the bay is shallow and very tidal—channels can partially or completely drain at low tide. Plan your route with a tide table, know your turn-around windows, and be ready to adjust if passages dry out. Conditions can shift quickly; even in summer, bring layers and rain protection.
There are no facilities on Lester Island—no restrooms, water, or designated sites. Handle logistics at Bartlett Cove, pack out everything, carry a tide table or marine chart, and consider bug protection in late spring and summer.
