There’s an underwater hydrophone listening station—one of those rare, memorable interpretive touches—that lets you eavesdrop on the bay. If whales are vocalizing, you’ll hear it.

Those lodge windows and nearby cove viewpoints are worth lingering over. You may spot bald eagles, sea otters, and harbor seals cruising the water, and on lucky days even humpback whales working the cove. Bring binoculars—this place rewards patient scanning.

Start here when you arrive in Bartlett Cove: check the desk for current programs, pick up maps, and get the lay of the land before hikes or water-based adventures. It’s also a good fallback if the weather turns—duck in for films, exhibits, and to regroup.

This is a compact visitor center, so it can feel busy during peak hours. Staffing and programs are seasonal, and certain services (like passport stamping) are typically available only when the desk is staffed, not just when the building is open. No pets inside.
