Apikuni Falls

Apikuni Falls is a waterfall destination in Many Glacier, reached from the Apikuni parking area 1.1 miles east of Many Glacier Hotel. The trail covers 0.8 mile one way and climbs 651 feet, so it is a steep out-and-back, not a roadside stop. Go if you want a waterfall and open mountain views in a short hike; skip it if a hard climb or uneven rock is a poor fit.

The path climbs beside Apikuni Creek through forest, then crosses rockier, more exposed ground to the falls. Visitors describe the final stretch as rough and sometimes a scramble; you can see the waterfall without pushing toward its base. Take care around the water and steep dropoffs, and turn around before any ledge feels uncomfortable.

The falls spill down a banded cliff into a rocky creek, while Mount Altyn towers to the west and Lake Sherburne lies to the south along the route. Snowmelt from Natahki Lake above can make the cascade strongest in late spring and early summer, though the flow varies by year. For a photo, frame the water with the cliff and streambed so the rocky setting shows, rather than cropping to the narrow fall alone.

The trailhead parking area is small and shared with the Poia Lake route; demand varies in the busy summer season, so leave some flexibility for parking. Bring water for the steep climb and use facilities in the developed Many Glacier area beforehand; none are documented at this trailhead.
