Grand Canyon Depot is a two-story log-and-wood railway station in Grand Canyon Village's Historic District, beside El Tovar. It's a National Historic Landmark that still handles railway passengers. If you're arriving by train, the station is part of the experience; if you're already walking the Village, make it a short stop for the building and its railroad story.

The first train reached the canyon in 1901, but this depot dates to 1909–1910. Santa Barbara architect Francis W. Wilson designed it. The logs were squared on three sides, making them fit the structure and creating flatter interior surfaces while keeping a rustic exterior. The first floor still serves passengers; the station agent's family originally lived upstairs.

The depot is one of about 14 log railway depots built in the United States, and one of only three that remain. Of those, it's the only one whose primary structure uses logs and still serves an operating railroad. That's a neat reason to look past the train platform and notice how the building is put together.

For a photo, frame the broad log facade with the tracks along the bottom; a train adds movement when one is already at the station. The depot sits right beside El Tovar, and the walk from here up toward the hotel and rim climbs uphill. Parking near the depot is limited, and the Village Blue Route shuttle stop is across the street. The NPS lists wheelchair access, a restroom and historical displays at the depot. Railway service from Williams runs year-round when weather permits, so check the current schedule before planning around a train.
