Mud Flats Picnic Area

Mud Flats Picnic Area is a one-table picnic stop near the north end of Jackson Lake, with the Teton Range across the water. I’d use it for a short break if you’re already in this part of the park; one table is all that’s documented, so it isn’t a place to plan around for a picnic meal.

Jackson Lake is a reservoir. When releases from Jackson Lake Dam lower it toward its natural pool level, the mud flats emerge and the Snake River cuts channels through the exposed lakebed. The shoreline changes with the water level, so those flats won’t show on every visit.

If shoreline flowers are out, they make a bright foreground for a lake-and-mountain photo. I couldn’t confirm a restroom or drinking water for this stop, so make other plans for those. Accessibility is listed, but the route and surface aren’t described.
