Parking

Start at the Blanket Bay Campground day-visitor area; the Great Ocean Walk access leaves from the campground. Reach Blanket Bay via Lighthouse Road and Blanket Bay Road. The route ends at the Parker Inlet approach rather than the starting car park, so arrange transport or return on foot.

Safety

The path repeatedly climbs out of gullies, and the final inlet approach is steep with uneven footing. No water point is reported along the route; carry your own. Dogs are not permitted on the Great Ocean Walk.

“Blanket Bay is ahead, a small bay where I'd stop for rockpools and a picnic. Low tide exposes the rock shelves and pools that make the shoreline worth exploring.”

The track leaves the campground through coastal forest dotted with grass trees, dipping into gullies and climbing out again. Those repeated short rises account for most of the effort. Two lookouts break up the greenery with views over the ocean and Parker estuary. The walk then drops toward the inlet for its finish.

Keep the route variants straightThis is the Blanket Bay to Parker Inlet section, not the separate 5.

This is the Blanket Bay to Parker Inlet section, not the separate 5.35 km inlet circuit that returns by the shoreline, and not the longer continuation toward Cape Otway. The circuit's rocky shore return and the Great Ocean Walk section are different itineraries; do not join them into one mapped route. The inlet end is a trail destination, so do not count on a road-side pickup without arranging it.
