“Torquay's beaches are coming up, with two quite different ways to spend a break. For a picnic or calmer water, I'd choose Front Beach and its sheltered Cosy Corner beside Point Danger, though conditions still change.”

Hiking Torquay Promenade Walk

A short Torquay foreshore walkTorquay Promenade Walk is a 1.

Torquay Promenade Walk is a 1.5 km one-way section of the Surf Coast Walk, from Yellow Bluff to Point Danger. It follows a flat, step-free concrete shared path along Torquay’s foreshore. Allow about 20 minutes one way; walking back makes it a 3 km outing of roughly 40 minutes. It’s an easy way to see the town’s beaches and waterfront, rather than a remote coastal hike.

Start beside Yellow Bluff and head south along the foreshore. The path passes a lookout over Front Beach, the Norfolk Island pines and Cosy Corner, crossing by the Cosy Corner car park before reaching Point Danger. Cafés on Gilbert Street and public toilets on the Esplanade and at Front Beach are along the way. Cyclists share the route, so keep an eye out for riders.

From Yellow Bluff to Point DangerYellow Bluff takes its name from its yellow limestone.

Yellow Bluff takes its name from its yellow limestone. The reserve’s Elephant Walk name recalls visiting circuses that exercised elephants there in summer. At the end, Point Danger’s ANZAC memorial sits above a broad coastal view back toward Point Impossible. Offshore reefs that once challenged ships gave the point its name. From here, you can join the Torquay Historical Walk or continue along the next Surf Coast Walk leg toward Bird Rock.
