Great Otway National Park, VIC
A steep 300-step descent to a river-mouth beach.
Overview
At the bottom, a broad sandy reach sits where the river meets the ocean, between forested headlands. The open mouth and rock formations give the short walk its character; spend a few minutes on the shore before the climb back. This is a beach and estuary stop, not a long coastal hike.

Parker Hill and Crayfish Bay: The Coastal Loop“You’re approaching the turnoff for Parker Hill and Crayfish Bay. For a short coastal outing, I’d choose the Crayfish Bay loop from Point Franklin car park, taking about forty minutes plus time on the shore.”

Trail guide
Parker River Inlet Walk is a roughly 0.32-mile out-and-back from Parker Hill Campground down a stairway of about 300 steps to the beach at Parker River's mouth. The distance is for the full return; you follow the same steps back up. Allow about 30–45 minutes. The climb is the work here, so don't let the short mileage fool you.
Start at Parker Hill Campground's beach stairs. This is the 500 m return walk; a separate route from Blanket Bay follows the Great Ocean Walk for 4 km one way. The inlet can have strong currents and rough surf. Dogs aren't allowed in the national park.
