Trail guide
This roughly 0.2-mile out-and-back follows a short footpath from Newfound Gap Road to the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River, with a creek bridge as its small payoff. The mapped approach is about 0.1 mile one way; allow around 15 minutes for the return and a brief stop. A short loop has also been described here, but its closing leg is not clear on the available map. The mapped route follows the verified access, so retrace it unless the loop is clearly open on site; treat any longer riverside continuation as a separate walk.
Steep steps descend from the roadside to a wooden bridge over a small creek. Beyond the bridge, the path is nearly level by the river; the return climb is concentrated on those steps.
