This is the Parkway’s adrenaline viewpoint: a horseshoe-shaped, glass-floored platform suspended 280 m above the Sunwapta Valley, reached via a 1 km interpretive cliff-edge walkway. It’s a curated experience—dramatic views wrapped in bite-sized geology and natural history—rather than a hike.

How It Works

You park at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre and ride the dedicated shuttle to the Skywalk; there’s no public parking or roadside pullout at the platform itself. Expect a paced, one-way flow: interpretive stops along the walkway culminating in time on the glass deck before shuttling back.

Value Check

If you want a safe, high-exposure viewpoint without a big hike—and you like learning as you go—the Skywalk delivers. If you’re counting dollars per minute or prefer quieter, free overlooks, you may find it overrated compared to nearby pullouts and trails.

• A Parks Canada Pass is required to drive the Icefields Parkway to reach the Skywalk area.

• There are no restrooms, food, or shops at the Skywalk; handle essentials at the Discovery Centre before boarding.
