This is Indiana Dunes State Park’s developed Electric Campground, with East and West loops under mature trees. The state lists 140 electric sites, all with 50-amp service. Campers report there are no water or sewer hookups at individual sites; a water-fill station and dump station serve the campground. Restrooms and shower houses, parking, a convenience store, and a playground make this a practical base. The campground is listed as open year-round.

From camp to the beachThe Lake Michigan beach is less than a mile away.

The Lake Michigan beach is less than a mile away. A shaded trail leads from the campground through the dunes, with a long stair climb before you reach the sand. It’s a useful walk, though the stairs make the direct route a poor fit if you need step-free access. Dogs aren’t allowed on the State Park beach. For a meal or ice cream, the restored Dunes Pavilion is a separate stop by the shore; it has a restaurant, rooftop bar and grill, beach supplies, snacks, and ice cream.

The campground sits in a 2,182-acre state park established in 1925 after early preservation efforts. Its more than three miles of Lake Michigan beach sit below dunes that took thousands of years to form and rise nearly 200 feet above the lake. The park’s varied habitats and plants help stabilize some of the sand, so the route from camp to water is a quick way to move from shaded woods into an open shoreline landscape.
