Tremont Picnic Area is a wooded picnic stop on US 12, about half a mile east of State Road 49 and Dune Park South Shore station. A covered shelter, picnic tables and grills make it a practical place for a meal or a leg stretch during a drive. This is not beach access or a dune overlook: there is no Lake Michigan view, and a rail line runs beside the grounds.

Shelter use is first come, with no advance reservations. Bring your own meal; cooking is allowed in the provided grills or an approved enclosed-bottom carry-in grill. The area has seasonal restrooms and potable water, and one shelter and the restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Dogs are allowed on a leash no longer than six feet.
