Perched inside the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre, Glacier View Lodge is the rarest kind of stay: a boutique hotel staring straight at Athabasca Glacier. It’s easily the nicest overnight along the Icefields Parkway, and the only one right at the icefield. You come here for the location and those big, icy views—everything else is secondary.
Floor‑to‑ceiling windows in the lounge and many rooms frame the glacier and surrounding peaks. At night, the scene goes quiet and you get the place (and the stars) mostly to yourself—something day‑trippers never see.

Expect modern, alpine‑chic rooms (some with loft layouts) and a relaxed lounge. There’s an on‑site restaurant and bar with locally inspired dishes and vegetarian options. It’s not a resort—no pool, spa, or gym—so think refined basecamp rather than full‑service luxury.
The icefield area can deliver sightings of mountain goats, bighorn sheep, marmots, and birds of prey. You’re more likely to spot them on nearby slopes or while out exploring than right at the building, but keep binoculars handy.
You’re paying for that world‑class view. Food can feel pricey, and beyond the restaurant and gift shop there isn’t much else on site. Towns (and other dining choices) are over an hour away, so plan accordingly.
It’s a small property (about 32 rooms), so peak‑season dates sell out early. Free parking and Wi‑Fi are provided. The lodge sits directly off Highway 93N, across from the glacier, making it an ideal one‑night stop on a north–south parkway trip.
