Overview
Jasper’s biggest basecamp, Whistlers packs in 781 sites just 4 km south of town along the Icefields Parkway. After a major modernization and 2021 reopening, it’s the park’s most up-to-date place to pitch a tent or plug in an RV.

Guide
Elk are regulars around camp, with deer and ground squirrels common too; bear sightings do happen. Keep your site immaculate, use provided storage where applicable, and follow Parks Canada’s wildlife protocols.
Pick your loop with intent: RVers should look for serviced or full-hookup loops; tent campers tend to prefer quieter, non-serviced areas. If campfire time matters, filter for sites with fire pits. Some loops near main roads feel busier and a bit noisier. Following the recent wildfires, many spots have less tree cover—great for solar and sky views, less great for shade or privacy.
Being this close to town makes grocery runs and restaurant nights easy. From here, day trip to Maligne Lake, hike Edith Cavell Meadows, or warm up with short hikes like the Valley of the Five Lakes. It’s a practical launchpad for almost everything in the park.
