“Up ahead is Diamond Peak Scenic Vista, a quick pullout looking along East Sulphur Creek toward Lassen Peak. If the valley is clear, it's worth a few minutes for the view, with a steep rock wall rising beside the road.”

More about Diamond Peak Scenic Vista

A quick roadside viewpointDiamond Peak Scenic Vista is a small pullout on the Lassen Volcanic National Park Highway,…

Diamond Peak Scenic Vista is a small pullout on the Lassen Volcanic National Park Highway, tucked beneath Diamond Peak. It opens onto a long view of Lassen Peak and East Sulphur Creek, making it a worthwhile few-minute pause when the valley is clear. This is a viewpoint stop, not a hike.

The wall, valley, and wildlifeA steep rock wall rises on the uphill side of the road.

A steep rock wall rises on the uphill side of the road. Below, East Sulphur Creek cuts through the valley, with Lassen Peak beyond. Mule’s ears and rabbitbrush can add flowers around the vista, and golden eagles and other raptors are often seen soaring over the valley; sightings are never guaranteed.

Make the stop countTake in both the nearby rock wall and the distant peak.

Take in both the nearby rock wall and the distant peak. For a photo, include some road or rocky slope in the foreground with Lassen Peak beyond; the layers show more of the setting than a tight shot of the summit. If you’re looking for a walk, choose another stop—this one is enjoyed from the highway pullout.
