Kohm Yah-mah-nee is Lassen's only dedicated visitor center, about a mile from the Southwest Entrance. Stop here to get oriented before choosing a trail or driving farther into the park. Staff can help with trail and snow conditions, and the public schedule changes with the seasons and can shift with weather or staffing, so check it before you go.
The exhibit hall includes a three-dimensional geology map that helps make sense of Lassen's volcanic terrain. There are more exhibits and an auditorium for interpretive programs, making this a useful indoor stop when the weather is keeping you from exploring outside.
Kohm Yah-mah-nee is the Mountain Maidu name for Lassen Peak. It means “Snow Mountain.” When the center opened in 2008, it became the first facility in the park to receive a Tribal name, connecting this everyday orientation stop to the area's Indigenous history.
