Plan your stop

Before you go

Best time to go

Go on a cool early dry-season morning for the most comfortable walking, and give yourself plenty of daylight for the steep and rough sections. Arriving early is noticeably quieter; the area at the top of the falls is small and gets busier as the day goes on, so a first-thing start is the difference between having the cascade to yourself and sharing a handful of rock ledges.

Tjaetaba Falls is a small, broad rocky cascade that steps down layers of reddish-brown stone into a dark pool, set in tropical woodland. You cannot drive to it. The falls are reached on foot along the Greenant Creek walk, which starts from the picnic area near the car park about a kilometre away. It is a modest, quieter stop rather than a headline waterfall, and the walk itself is a big part of the appeal.

  • Climbs steeply in sections to the Tjaetaba Falls Lookout, which gives the view down over the falls and plunge pool.
  • Continues a short way to the top of the falls, where there is a tiny pool and open rock ledges.
