Overview

About Wangi Falls Cafe

Why stop

  • Shaded outdoor seating beside a major waterfall stop

Heads up

  • Simple menu and crowd-dependent queues at a popular site
It sits right in the Wangi Falls visitor area, a short walk from the carpark, so it is the easy answer to "where do we eat" once you have had your swim. Expect simple hot and cold food and drinks: think burgers, wraps, snacks, cakes, ice creams, coffee and cold drinks, with the lineup changing over time. Treat it as a refuel stop rather than a destination meal, and you will be happy with it.

Outdoor undercover seating is the drawcard, an open-air deck where you can sit in the shade with a cold drink after the heat and the water. It is casual and quick, closer to a kiosk than a restaurant, and food comes out in takeaway form so you can carry it back to a table or the grass.

Wangi is one of the park's most popular swimming holes, and the large plunge pool is a short accessible walk along a paved path from the carpark. If you want more than a swim, the Wangi Falls walk is 1.6 km return, about an hour, Grade 3 and steep in sections, climbing through monsoon forest and stairs past a viewing platform at the base of the falls to the escarpment. Do that first and the cafe becomes the reward at the end. Note the official rule: swimming is not allowed above the falls, and going beyond the guided path is dangerous.

This is a busy spot, and the cafe carries the crowd that comes with one of the park's best known swimming holes. Queues and full tables are normal when tour groups and day trippers converge, and the food is straightforward rather than memorable. Arrive earlier in the day for a quieter stop, or eat after the main midday rush has thinned out.
