“Balloch Castle has a name that plays a small trick on you. The stone building in the country park looks medieval, but John Buchanan had it built in 1808 as a grand country house.”

More about Lomond Woods Holiday Park

A practical holiday-park baseLomond Woods Holiday Park is a mixed campsite and holiday park on Old Luss Road near Balloch,…

Lomond Woods Holiday Park is a mixed campsite and holiday park on Old Luss Road near Balloch, on the southern edge of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. It combines touring pitches with static caravans, lodges and glamping pods in landscaped, wooded grounds. I'd use it as a base for the loch and Balloch rather than a destination for a scenic stop in its own right.

What you get on siteChoose from hot-tub and standard lodges, caravan holiday homes, pods or touring pitches.

Choose from hot-tub and standard lodges, caravan holiday homes, pods or touring pitches. The useful facilities are practical: heated toilets and showers, an accessible bathroom, laundry, chemical-waste disposal, recycling, two play areas, a dog-walk area and limited Wi-Fi. Touring pitches have 16-amp electric; fully serviced pitches add fresh- and wastewater connections. Dogs are welcome on leads, and an EV charger is at the entrance car park.

Make it workThe big advantage is location.

The big advantage is location. Loch Lomond Shores is advertised as about a five-minute walk, and Balloch's lochside attractions, pier, restaurants and rail station are close enough to reach without moving the car. Scotmid is roughly an eight-to-ten-minute walk for supplies. For meals, plan on using nearby Balloch or Lomond Shores rather than treating the park as a food stop. Road noise reaches some pitches, and pitch size and washroom experience vary, so the pitch you get is part of the decision. The park is open all year, with booking details handling arrival and pitch allocation.
