Trail guide
The Walled Garden Route is a 2.3 km (1.44 mi) loop from the South Lodge gates of Balloch Castle Country Park. Allow about 30 minutes, plus time to explore. It climbs the main avenue to the walled garden and returns beside the River Leven; this is the garden loop, not the longer Castle View or Shore Path routes.
Inside the walls, paths wind among planted beds and trees. Return to the garden junction, cross the wooden bridge and follow the river path to the slipway; the loop passes Balloch House on its way back to South Lodge. It is a gentle-feeling park walk with two different settings. The park lists it among its mobility-scooter routes, though it does not classify every path surface or gradient.
The walled-garden gate is locked overnight, so check current access if you need the complete loop. Dogs are allowed on a short lead or under close control. The main car park is at Moss O’ Balloch in town; the smaller Castle car park has a few disabled bays and gets busy in summer. Balloch bus station is opposite the south entrance. Benches are available, and the slipway food vendor does not open daily.
